The headliner has been announced for next summer's music festival extravaganza in Coventry.

Chart-topping DJ David Guetta will be bringing the curtain down on Soundscape, a two-day festival taking place at the Ricoh Arena in June.

Guetta tops the bill on the final day of the festival on June 16, taking place in the stadium bowl itself, and will play his 90-minute set after crowds have already been wowed by seven other, chart-topping artists.

Taking to the stage in Coventry for the very first time, Guetta brings with him a repertoire including 24 UK top 10 songs, either as a lead or featured artist - spending nearly 100 weeks in the top 10.

The EDM and house DJ has sold more than 30 million singles worldwide, and has collaborated with illustrious names such as Akon, Kelly Rowland, Flo Rida and Rihanna.

His more recent collaborative hits include 'Flames' with Sia, and 'Don’t Leave Me Alone' with Anne-Marie.

The other acts, including the headliner for day one - which offers up an indie, rock and alternative scene - are being kept closely under wraps and will be announced over the coming weeks.

Dan Nelmes, director at Showtime Live, who are organising the Soundscape Weekender, said: “As far as chart-topping artists go, you don’t get much bigger than David Guetta so we are absolutely thrilled to be able to have him performing right here in Coventry.

“His songs have captured the imagination of millions of people for nearly two decades now, and we believe he will provide a fitting end to what will be a truly memorable music event for our city.

“Efforts have also been made to ensure gig-goers are getting more for their money across both days. If we take Sunday as an example, they will be treated to 90 minutes of David Guetta – which is the equivalent of a standalone concert in itself – plus individual performances from seven other chart-topping artists.

“We’re really proud to be helping Coventry to live up to its potential as a first-class destination for different genres of live music, and we will be announcing all of our acts for the Saturday once we have revealed Sunday’s full line-up.”

Major Ricoh Arena festival cancelled after billing as one of Coventry's biggest music events ever

A FESTIVAL at the Ricoh Arena which was billed as one of the biggest music events in Coventry ever has been cancelled.

Soundscape, a two-day outdoor music festival, was announced in September and was to be held in June next summer.

Event promoter Showtime Live said the festival was set to feature eight chart-topping artists, before day two hosts another eight leading acts from the indie, rock and alternative scene.

Major acts such as David Guetta had already been announced.

Managing director at Ricoh Arena Stuart Cain said: “We were surprised and disappointed to hear from the Soundscape Festival promoter that the event is being cancelled.

“It was a decision that came out of the blue, and as the host venue, it was a decision that was beyond our control.

“We’d like to apologise to everybody who was looking forward to the festival, as we were.

“If customers purchased directly from Ricoh Arena then refunds will be issued within the next ten days.

“Ticket holders who purchased via other channels should contact their ticket provider directly to seek a refund.

A statement from Soundscape reads: “It is with a heavy heart and deep regret that we have to announce that Soundscape has been cancelled.

“Unfortunately the event’s major investors who had been in place since last year recently pulled out.

“This has put immense financial pressure on the festival.

“Overcoming these financial setbacks while trying to develop a new festival has become too much to bear and we have been forced to cancel.

“All ticket holders will be notified via details given at the time of purchase.

“Tickets bought via Ticketmaster, Ricoh Arena, Ticket Factory, Gigantic and Fest Tickets will be refunded immediately.

“Any-one else who purchased tickets are advised to contact their bank or credit card provider for a refund.

“We are extremely disappointed to be in this situation but under the circumstances in which we find ourselves, it is not possible to continue trading.”
