They’re one of the biggest bands on the planet - and they’re coming to Coventry!

The Rolling Stones will play the Ricoh Arena this summer as part of their No Filter tour.

It’s a massive coup for the stadium and the city in what has already been a stellar year for announcements.

Coventry has snagged the UK City of Culture for 2021 while this summer BBC Music will bring their Biggest Weekend bandwagon into the War Memorial Park with the likes of Liam Gallagher, Stereophonics and Snow Patrol.

Add in the Godiva Festival and it looks set to be a very special summer of music.

The Rolling Stones will perform on home turf in May and June for two concerts in London as well as gigs in Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff - and now the cities of Coventry and Southampton have been added to the lineup.

The Coventry concert will take place at the Ricoh on Saturday, June 2 while the Southampton gig will be played at St Mary’s Stadium on May 29.

They will also make stops in Dublin, Berlin, Marseille, Stuttgart, Prague and Warsaw.

The second part of the Stones - No Filter tour will see fans treated to hits such as Paint It Black and Brown Sugar and each night they will include a couple of unexpected tracks and randomly selected surprises.

The Specials will support the Rolling Stones at Coventry gig

The Specials, Coventry’s greatest band, will be supporting the Rolling Stones in the city this summer.

The Stones will play on June 2 at the Ricoh Arena and it has been confirmed the remaining Specials band members will support them after news surfaced last night.

Cheapest tickets to the highly anticipated event have now sold out but premium options are still available.

The 2-Tone pioneers will feature original lead vocalist Terry Hall supported by bassist Horace Panter and Lynval Golding – guitarist and vocalist.

It was Panter who tweeted last night: “NEWS JUST IN… The Specials are supporting The Rolling Stones at The Ricoh on 2 June! That’s all!”

The much-loved group will perform renditions of their greatest hits – documenting the periods of social grievance and mass unemployment that symbolised 1970s and 80s life.

These include numbers ones Ghost Town and Too Much Too Young.

During the campaign for City of Culture 2021, based on the Specials best loved track, ‘From Ghost Town to Host Town’ became an unofficial slogan of the Coventry bid.
