A light-up drum kit built by a musician and his childhood friend in his shed has been seen by more than 40 million people online

Musician Michael Fish, known as DJ Afishal, shot to internet stardom after uploading videos of his gigs online.

He uses drums which when hit trigger lights and images beamed onto giant screens behind him.

The kit was built with the help of friend Will Cockayne who runs Coventry-based LED lighting company Maxilux.

Will decked the inside of each hollow drum tube with some 3,000 lights which are usually used to light offices.

The 29 year-old said: “Myself and Michael came up with the idea when he was living in a caravan on our farm. He wanted to create a unique drumming DJ rig and we just said to each other ‘let’s do it.’

“He hollowed out the drum shells in his garden shed and I lined them with lights which are designed to trigger when he hits them. The effect is incredible.

“We put some videos together and put them on YouTube and the response has been immense. He’s now being booked to perform at incredible venues all over the world.”
