The singer took the spot as the celebrity with the highest number of followers at 4,955,768, surpassing Ashton Kutcher who has 4,944,221, reports People. Spears offered to answer questions submitted via the site as a gesture of her appreciation.

"This is really amazing! I love you all! I better get busy writing 4,947,608 thank you notes! U guys make me sooo happy (sic)," she wrote.

When asked about his response to the news during a press junket interview, Kutcher reportedly preferred to talk only about the film.

"2nd most pop Q 'What do U think about Brittney having more followers than u?' Answer: 'I don't care. Aren't u suppose 2B a movie reporter?'" he later wrote on his Twitter.

The word is "Tweeted" Polly :D

It has its uses, some website owners use it to keep people informed of any progress when the site is down. That has a couple of drawbacks of its own. Those without a Twitter account have to visit a special page in order to read the tweets. Also if the website owner's line is disconnected they have no way of tweeting in the first place!
