The musician, whose quartet performed 'Take Five', passed away the day before his 92nd birthday.

Brubeck died this morning (December 5) of heart failure, his manager Russell Gloyd confirmed to The AP. He would have been 92 tomorrow.

Born in Concord, California in 1920, the musician formed The Dave Brubeck Quartet in 1952, and the group released the million-selling jazz album Time Out.

Among its tracks featuring unusual time signatures, the album featured the enduring 'Take Five', written by saxophonist Paul Desmond.

The quartet was rounded out by drummer Joe Morello and bassist Eugene Wright.

Among his accolades was a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996 and a Kennedy Centre Honors in 2009.
