It is the third time that the record has reached number one. The album topped the charts on its release in June and repeated the feat in the last week of 2009.

Sunny Side Up has spent 20 weeks in the top ten since its release and has never fallen out of the top 40. It has also been classified as platinum three times.

Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, said: "It's a great example of an enduring album, which sustains its popularity long after the initial promotion around its release."

Elsewhere in the chart, the soundtrack to Alvin & The Chipmunks 2 - The Squeakquel climbed up from number 22 to number nine. Biffy Clyro also moved into the top ten with Only Revolutions, jumping four places to number nine.

Alicia Keys climbed up six places to number two with The Element Of Freedom, but Lostprophets fell 11 places to number 14 with The Betrayed. Vampire Weekend's Contra also slipped out of the top ten, dropping eight slots to number 17.

The top ten albums in full:
1. (2) Paolo Nutini: 'Sunny Side Up'
