The British singer, who was perhaps best known for her war-time ballad 'I'll Be Seeing You', passed away on Friday from complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Plymouth-born Davis launched her performing career with her band leader father Harry Davis at the age of 3 and later shot to fame after singing on Bob Hope's radio show.

She said that she was inspired by US singers such as Ella Fitzgerald and toured around Europe before the war playing with well-known musicians Stephane Grappelli, Ted Heath and George Shearing. She later performed with Glenn Miller's Army Air Force Band.

Davis decided to travel around the US performing, saying that she "wanted to meet Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Helen Forrest". She later appeared with Sinatra on radio show Your Hit Parade and then performed with stars such as Jane Russell and Benny Goodman.

She married and divorced Hollywood radio and television star Peter Potter, then wed Buck Stapleton. They were together for 35 years until he died in 2003.

Davis is survived by three children.
