Screamadelica is one of those albums with a long-term resonance that far outstrips its initial commercial impact.

Primal Scream’s third studio collection, released in September 1991, has gone down in history as the first winner of the Mercury Music Prize and last year its iconic sun-rave cover was one of 10 granted the ultimate cultural accolade of featuring on a set of Royal Mail stamps.

Numerous bands have cited it as a key influence and earlier this year its 20th anniversary was celebrated with a suitably lavish range of collectable re-issues.

The band have been showcasing Screamdelica in their recent concerts and it will dominate their hectic festival schedule this summer. And now they have announced a couple of warm-up concerts including Leamington Spa’s Assembly on Sunday, June 19 – tickets £25 on sale now from http://www.gigsandtours.com / 0844 811 0051

Guitarist Andrew Innes – alongside singer Bobby Gillespie one of the two original members left in the band, recalls: “Suddenly the technology became available to do new things in music. It was all in black and white and suddenly you were allowed to make an album in Technicolor – you were only limited by your imagination.

“On Screamadelica, you can see we had this sudden outburst of imagination and creativity.”

New York outfit We Are Scientists, who have flown over for next week’s Isle of Wight Festival, are booked into the Assembly on Tuesday, June 14 .

Jon Allen plays Cox’s Yard in Stratford upon Avon on Tuesday, June 14, when he will be presenting material from his new album Sweet Defeat, the follow-up to his much-praised 2009 debut Dead Man’s Suit.

He funded the recording of that one courtesy of the download traffic generated when his track Going Home featured on a worldwide TV advert for Land Rover. And he is proving admirably pro-active in developing his career, creating his own free app so he can keep them up to date about his studio work and live dates.
