Live classical concerts planned for Earlsdon pub

Live music is Bach at a Coventry pub which is set to host classical concerts.



Landlord Peter Dunkley is orchestrating changes at the Albany in Earlsdon – where Brahms and Liszt are set to take on a new meaning.

The 49-year-old is hoping a bit of culture will be another string to the pub’s bow, attracting new customers who would prefer Mozart and Beethoven in a less formal setting than a concert hall.

String quartets, choirs and sopranos will be performing on stage to help punters relax and unwind while having a pint.

He’s also planning to feature more traditional pub music – including blues bands.

His classical season will begin with Chorus Natus Est, a nine-member choir made up of music graduates from York and Huddersfield universities, on Easter Sunday at 7.30pm.

Peter said: “It’s been a bit gloomy lately and I wanted to do something that would cheer people up. I want to have happy regulars who enjoy the experience of classical music without the formality of being in a traditional concert hall where you have to be quiet.

"It’s a really exciting venture for us at the Albany and I’m hoping it will attract a vibrant audience.
