Revellers from across the country will be heading to Coventry this weekend as the city plays host to the eagerly anticipated MTV Crashes open-air festival at the Ricoh Arena over the course of two days.

But music fans and festival-goers are being urged by organisers to ditch the selfie sticks and leave them at home.

The monopods, which are used to take selfie photographs by positioning a smartphone or camera beyond the normal range of the arm, are on a list of prohibited items for the two-day bash.

Friday will see Chase and Status headline the Coventry event, with other performers including Kaiser Chiefs, Tom Odell, Fleur East and Sigala.

The following night, the Ricoh Arena will be transformed into a Club MTV event.

The Chainsmokers and Basement Jaxx have been confirmed, as well as Pete Tong, Wilkinson and Kano.

This will be the first time the music station will be hosting MTV Crashes in a stadium.

Laura Whitmore is set to host the bash, with the cast of MTV show Geordie Show set to attend and enjoy the festivities.

But Coventry revellers are being urged to leave potentially hazardous items at home - with flags, laser pens and air horns also banned.
