A Nuneaton nightclub has confirmed it is 'deeply saddened' that it is closing its doors for good. Popworld has announced on social media that it will shut at the end of next month.

Popworld first opened in 2018, replacing what was Reflex, in Church Street. But now it has said that it will close its doors on Saturday, February 21.

In the post it says: "After 8 unforgettable years, we are deeply saddened to announce that Popworld Nuneaton is officially closing its doors for the last time on Saturday 21st Feb."

It continues: "Since opening in 2018, we’ve shared countless memories with you – from the wild dancefloor moments to the iconic tunes, fancy dress, and everything in between. You’ve laughed with us, danced with us and created memories that will live on, far beyond our closing night.

We want to extend a massive thank you to each and every one of you who has supported us over the years – whether you popped in for one night or made us part of your regular weekend ritual."

It says that the final night will say goodbye in 'Popworld style', adding: "It’s been emotional. It’s been messy. It’s been incredible"

The future of the building, which has long played a part in Nuneaton's night-time scene, remains unclear. It dates back to the 1800s when it was The Queens Head and, many years later, became the Pen and Wig before rebranding as Reflex and then Popworld.

The area the nightspot sits is in between two major regeneration projects - Justice Walk on Church Street and also Bridge to Living in nearby Bridge Street.

But while many buildings around it have been or are due to be demolished, Popworld was due to be one of the buildings still standing.
