Lorde beats James Arthur to UK singles No.1 with 'Royals'

Lorde has scored a debut UK number one single with 'Royals'.



The 16-year-old singer from New Zealand backed up her success in the US by topping the charts this side of the Atlantic.

She told the Official Charts Company: "I'm so incredibly stoked about being number one this week and very grateful to all the UK fans who bought 'Royals'!"

X Factor winner James Arthur settles for the number two slot with his first proper single since winning the show last year. 'You're Nobody Til Somebody Loves You' lands at two.

OneRepublic slip two to three with last week's chart-topper 'Counting Stars'. Katy Perry climbs back two spots to four with 'Roar'.

Showtek - consisting of Dutch brothers Sjoerd and Wouter Janssen - enter at five with 'Booyah', a collaboration with Sonny Wilson.

Miley Cyrus drops four to six with 'Wrecking Ball', while James Blunt slips three to seven with 'Bonfire Heart'.

Union J achieve their second Top 10 single at eight with their new track 'Beautiful Life'. Wilkinson falls one to nine with 'Afterglow', and Drake climbs two to re-enter the Top 10 with 'Hold On We're Going Home'.

Robin Thicke follows his X Factor performance last week by climbing 13 places to 15 with 'Give It 2 U'.

Eminem enters at 22 with 'Survival', the third track in as many weeks to reach the Top 40 from his new album The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

Justin Bieber also achieves his third chart placement in three weeks, with 'Hold Tight' entering at 28.

Icona Pop's 'All Night', the follow-up to number one 'I Love It', is new at 31. Boyband Reconnected land at 33 with 'Time of Our Lives'.

Sean Paul achieves his 15th Top 40 hit as a lead artist, with 'Turn It Up' entering at 35.
