Pete Waterman signs up for BBC Coventry and Warwickshire Saturday show

Coventry music producer Pete Waterman OBE is to host his own weekend show on BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.



The former Locarno DJ, hitmaker, Pop Idol judge and train enthusiast will take to the airwaves from this Saturday from 4pm to 6pm.

The show will be called Pete Waterman - Back To My Roots and will celebrate the region’s music and memories, with guests and listener phone-ins.

It will also be broadcast on sister station BBC WM.

Pete said: “I care passionately about the West Midlands – it’s where I started and it’s the part of the country with the very best people.

“I can’t wait to talk to listeners to and share some stories.”

BBC Coventry & Warwickshire editor Andrew Bowman said: “I’m thrilled that Pete will be joining the station.

“The show will be packed with brilliant nostalgia and memories.

“Pete is a Coventry legend, it’s a show that I’m sure listeners will love.”

Pete is the most successful British producer-songwriter in pop history with more than 40 years’ experience in the music industry.

Inspired by meeting the Beatles as a teenager, he worked as a DJ at Coventry’s Locarno Ballroom before finding fame as part of 1980s hit-making trio Stock Aitken Waterman.

They were instrumental in the development of dozens of internationally successful acts such as Kylie Minogue , Rick Astley, Dead Or Alive, Bananarama and Steps.

They have sold more than 500million records around the world and secured more than 20 UK number ones.
