After singing ‘Careless Whisper’, originally by George Michael, in the Knockout stage on Saturday, he was chosen to go through to the next stage of the competition.

He impressed celebrity judges Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Kylie Minogue and Ricky Wilson.

Lee, 31, moved from Hertfordshire to attend Coventry University 12 years ago, and still lives in the city.

He said: “I’m used to working in an office and now suddenly, I’m spending days and days in the studio with Kylie rehearsing music, which is what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s brilliant and I don’t want it to end.”

Kylie Minogue, Lee’s mentor on the show, said: “Lee is probably the most unique voice I have on my team. He takes a song and does a Lee Glasson version.”

The next episode, the live quarter-finals, is on Saturday at 6.45pm.

Lee Glasson's 'Strong' performance not enough to get him through to final

Singer Lee Glasson's journey on The Voice has come to an end.

The 31-year-old TV talent show contestant, of Coventry, was knocked out of the live semi-final last night.

His solo performance impressed mentor Kylie Minogue and fellow judges Tom Jones, Ricky Wilson, and Will. i. am.

But it wasn't enough to secure him a place in the final and he was one of four singers knocked out by public vote at the penultimate stage of the competition.

Contestant Jamie Johnson, 19, from Gillingham, Kent, received the most votes for Kylie Minogue’s team and will battle it out for the title of winner of The Voice next week.

Lee said on the show: “It’s been quite a test.

“I’ve learnt so much about myself.

“It’s just been amazing and - Jamie to win.”

Lee, who moved to Coventry from Hertfordshire to study at university 12 years ago, sang 'Strong'.

After the performance, Lee explained he'd been nervous all week and had issues finding the right key and arrangement, but added: “I'm feeling that's the best I've done it yet.”

Kylie said: “You're so passionate, you're such a perfectionist and emotion is such a big part of your performance.

"We feel it every time and it's ok to not feel fantastic but I think you did fantastically.”

Tom Jones commented: “I think you're going to go far.”

And Ricky Wilson said: “I think the current song choice worked really well with you.”

Will. i. am had a verbal mishap while commenting on Lee’s performance.

The judge swore on air, saying: “You were really feeling that s*** - sorry.”

Host Emma Willis apologised immediately, saying: “I do apologise on Will’s behalf and hope no-one has taken offence.”

The judge later tweeted: “Oops...my moms ganna kill me...I slipped...”.

Each celebrity judge will be represented by one singer in the last stage.

Jamie Johnson will represent Kylie Minogue.

Tom Jones will be represented in the final by Sally Barker, 54, from Leicester, after 43-year-old Bizzi Dixon, also from Leicester, was eliminated.

Kaiser Chiefs front-man Ricky Wilson will have 20-year-old Christina Marie as his sole contestant, after securing more votes than fellow Team Ricky contestant, Chris Royal from Manchester.

Will. i. am’s finalist is 19-year-old Jermaine Jackman, from London, who received more public votes than the show’s youngest contestant, Sophie-May Williams, 17, from Wakefield.

The final of The Voice airs next Sunday at 7pm on BBC One.
