Pete Doherty has been jailed for six months after pleading guilty to cocaine possession.

The 32-year-old from Bedworth was sentenced today after he was charged following an inquiry into the death of Robin Whitehead in January 2010. The 27-year-old filmmaker was making a documentary about the musician at the time.

Doherty was previously granted unconditional bail but warned that he faced a third jail sentence due to his "unattractive" criminal record.

Sentencing him at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Judge David Radford said: "From what I have heard and what I have read there is no doubt that you are a talented and successful musician.

"However, you have an appalling record of committed offences of the kind for which you fall to be sentenced today."

The Babyshambles star was arrested along with friends Peter Wolfe, who admitted possessing and supplying cocaine to Whitehead, and Alan Wass, who pleaded not guilty to a possession charge.

Earlier this year, the trio's legal team failed to convince a judge that the case against them should be thrown out of court.

Doherty was due to play a sell-out gig at Glasgow Barrowland tonight.
