Susan Boyle's debut album has achieved the highest first-day sales of the year, the Official Charts Company says.

I Dreamed A Dream shifted more than 130,000 copies on Monday and is outselling the rest of the week's top five albums combined.

It is on track to beat the highest first-week sales of 375,872 for a debut album set by Leona Lewis two years ago.

Britain's Got Talent runner-up Boyle said she had "finally achieved" her dream of releasing an album.

"There is happiness out there for everyone who dares to dream," she said.

The record could also become the fastest-selling album of the year.

That record is held by boy band JLS, whose eponymous debut album sold more than 230,000 copies in it first week earlier this month.

Boyle, 48, from West Lothian, shot to fame earlier this year when she appeared on the ITV1's Britain's Got Talent.

She gained worldwide recognition after her audition for the show was watched by millions on the internet.

Her debut single, a cover of 1971 Rolling Stones hit Wild Horses, is expected to go into the top 10 on Sunday.

Sadly I was unable to find a video of this particular singer prancing around in skimpy underwear
