Brummie star will be joined by a rock legend when his Stand Up & Rock tour stop off for three successive nights at the Albany Theatre
Comedy legend Jasper Carrott is back on the road - and he's coming to Coventry with a rock legend.
The Brummie comic, who rose to fame in the 1970s on the hit TV show An Evening With Jasper Carrott, will perform a run of three successive nights at Coventry's Albany Theatre starting on March 24, 2022.
The newly-announced dates take the 76-year-old's Stand Up & Rock tour, alongside former Electric Light Orchestra, The Move and Black Sabbath drummer Bev Bevan, from September this year through to June 6, 2022.
"It’s exciting to be back out performing," said Jasper, whose last Stand Up & Rock show was in November 2019.
"But there’s also the trepidation of not having worked for that long: whilst you know the routines, it’s about all the little bits that enhance it as you go along, the little remarks that pop into your head.
"But I do it purely for the enjoyment. Adrenalin is one hell of a drug and it’s very difficult to come off it."
The tour leans heavily on Midlands venues.
Jasper said: "One of the joys is getting back to the basic roots of stand-up comedy, eyeball to eyeball with the audience."
Bev also said he can't wait to get back on stage.
He said: "Once you get on stage and get that crowd reaction, it’s fantastic, there’s nothing to replace it."
Jasper, arguably the godfather of British stand-up, has been making the nation laugh since his comedy single Funky Moped stormed the pop charts in 1975 and through prime-time TV series such as Carrott’s Lib, Carrott’s Commercial Breakdown and The Detectives with Robert Powell.
Winner of the BBC TV Personality of the Year, BAFTA and British Comedy Awards Lifetime Achievement, the proud Brummie has his own ‘Star’ on Birmingham’s Walk of Stars.
