Two new shows that delve into real life stories from Coventry’s past will be put on this summer as part of a theatrical takeover of the old Coventry Telegraph offices.

The Belgrade Theatre is holding a unique mini-festival at the building called Read All About it, which will draw on stories from the pages of the Coventry Telegraph as well as the community’s own memories.

The ambitious project, which celebrates the Belgrade Theatre’s 60th anniversary, encourages people in Coventry to get involved by sharing their own stories for inspiration.

The first show, City Final, will take audiences on a journey back in time to the days when the building was filled with the hustle and bustle of a busy newsroom.

The show is being devised by six groups led by the Belgrade’s Community and Education team, with each one selecting Telegraph stories to rework for a series of short performances spread across multiple floors.

As well as reliving headlines from across the decades, the show also offers audiences the chance to explore the building itself for one last time before a major redevelopment sees it transformed into a hotel later in the year.

Retold, an interactive cabaret-style show, will be put together by acclaimed West Midlands-based dance company Mercurial Dance.

Real-life memories supplied by members of the community will be brought to life by a professional and community cast through dance and music, chronicling the many changes the city has been through.

Ahead of their performances this summer, Mercurial Dance are offering you the chance to be part of the project by sharing your stories of the city.

Choreographer and director Oliver Scott is collecting tales and anecdotes from locals to be used as the basis for shows. In particular, he’s keen to hear about memorable moments spent in the city, favourite places in Coventry and why, stories from the past and where you were during significant events.

You can email your stories to retold@mercurialdance.co.uk, or write a letter to Mercurial Dance, 11a Coventry Canal Basin, Leicester Row, CV1 4LH.

Read All About It takes place at the old CET building on Corporation Street from Tuesday, July 10 to Saturday, July 14.

Tickets and additional information will be available soon at http://www.belgrade.co.uk

Belgrade Theatre to showcase Telegraph journalism

That is the funniest thing I've read in a long time. What bl**dy journalism?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
