Star names line up for the Belgrade's Spring Season

Star names such as Warwick Davis, Alistair McGowan and Les Dennis will tread the Belgrade Theatre boards during its upcoming spring season.

Opening the season on the Main Stage is the legendary musical Blood Brothers which returns for a two week run from January 27, starring Maureen Nolan.

Produced by Bill Kenwright, it recently became one of only three musicals ever to surpass 10,000 performances in London’s West End.

First up in B2 is the theatre's own production of Ben Jonson’s classic comedy The Alchemist (February 1 to 22) which tells the story of a housekeeper who, while his master is out of town, joins forces with a cheater and his punk as the city’s premier conman.

Alongside Theatre Royal, Bath and London’s Arcola Theatre, the Belgrade is also producing three classic plays as part of its Spanish Golden Age Season

A Lady of Little Sense, Don Gil of the Green Breeches and Punishment Without Revenge will run in B2 from March 26 to April 19.

Les Dennis is the first of the star names to appear in The Perfect Murder by international best-selling crime thriller novelist Peter James from February 14 to March 1 followed by Star Wars and Harry Potter regular Warwick Davis in farce See How They Run (March 3 to 8).

New comedy-horror The Mummy (March 21 to 29) stars Susie Amy with acclaimed actor Robert Powell playing Poirot in Agatha Christie’s first crime caper written for the stage, Black Coffee (May 6 to 10).

BAFTA winning impressionist, comic and writer Alistair McGowan heads the cast in the centenary year production of George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion (May 12 to 17) which also stars Rula Lenska and Jamie Foreman, who recently played Derek Branning in EastEnders.

All male Shakespeare company Propeller return with The Comedy of Errors and the Bard’s classic play of love and illusion, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (February 11 to 15) while the season also includes Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story (March 10 and 11), the Moscow Ballet La Classique’s Giselle and Swan Lake (March 13 to 15) and Michael Jackson tribute show The King of Pop (March 12).

Children's highlights include Tom’s Midnight Garden (April 15 to 19), Peppa Pig's Big Splash (May 21 and 22) while classic cartoon Scooby Doo is brought to life in in Scooby Doo: The Mystery of the Pyramid (July 22 to 24).

February and March will see the return of Midday Variety, there will be an amateur production of West Side Story, Coventry Gang Show and Freeman Dance’s Summer Show while Coventry Jubilee Rotary Club will perform Greatest Hits from the Musicals ahead of the Coventry Schools Young Entertainer Competition and Coventry Musical Theatre Society production of Crazy for You as part of the Spring season.
