While Sherlock Holmes fever has gripped many television viewers in recent weeks, the Priory Theatre in Kenilworth is about to present a comedy play version of a classic Conan Doyle tale.

John Nicholson and Steven Canny’s The Hound of the Baskervilles will take its world premier on the Rosemary Hill stage from tonight (Wednesday) until Saturday February 11.

The Priory team say they are “exceptionally proud” to present the piece which their press spokesman Mike Connell describes as transforming the most popular of the Sherlock Holmes stories into “pure comic bliss”.

A cast of three quick-changing actors don frocks, assorted wigs and big black beards to pay Conan Doyle irreverent homage. Tongues may be in cheeks but the story is played faithfully and the scary element has an equal priority.

Director John Evans said; “We are extremely honoured to be premiering this outstanding production onto the amateur stage. The cast are doing an incredible job and some rehearsals have seen the backstage crew reduced to tears of laughter from the comedic performances.

“The pace of the production is breathtaking, the fast-changing sets are impressive and the energy from the cast as they tell the story of the classic Sherlock Holmes thriller is stunning.”
