Following a hugely successful run in 2010, We Love You City is returning to the Belgrade Theatre this spring as a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the year Coventry City FC won the FA Cup Final.

A co-production between the theatre and the Coventry-based Talking Birds theatre company, the play sees 11 players take centre stage to recreate the events of that legendary match and tell the funny, edgy, moving, and sometimes farcical stories that were playing out in the city during those nail-biting 90 minutes - plus a bit of extra time.

Nick Walker, who wrote the play, said: “The response first time around, the response to We Love You City was overwhelming. There was singing, chanting and even some old school football rattles - and not just from the football fans!

“I’m hoping that the sense of optimism in the city, both during Olympic year, and with the anniversary of the match itself, will mean the experience this year will be even more emotional.”

The drama takes the B2 stage from May 8 to 26 and is just part of what the venue is describing as a “stellar” line-up for the season.

The arrival of the Olympics in the UK will be marked by new production, Stars in the Morning Sky, which tells the story of a group of prostitutes who find themselves banned from the streets of Moscow during the 1980 Olympic Games.

This new adaptation has been written by award-winning playwright Chris Hannan and will run in B2 from March 17 to April 7.

Other highlights include the Belgrade’s productions of Nora, adaptations of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House and Strindberg’s The Father, family musical Swallows and Amazons, West End show Joseph and the Techicolour Dreamcoat and psychological thriller Equus.

Tickets for all shows are now available. Call 024 7655 3055 or go online.
