Hollywood stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore first brought a touch of romance to the big screen in The Wedding Singer. Now Leamington’s Spa Theatre Company is bringing the 80s back to life with a stage version that follows the fortunes of jilted New Jersey wedding singer Robbie Hart and waitress Julia Sullivan.
The musical, which opened at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington last night, is based on the 1998 hit film. Robbie’s band is trying to help him get back on his feet again and he finds himself falling in love with Julia when he agrees to help her with her forthcoming wedding to a self-obsessed Wall Street banker.
Raunchy, funny and sexy, The Wedding Singer takes audiences back to the days of leg-warmers, yuppies and dodgy perms.
