Inspector Morse creator Colin Dexter offers clues on how to turn books into TV hits as he helps launch the Stratford-Upon Avon Literary Festival today.

Colin’s popular crime books have become international best sellers and Morse and TV spin-off Lewis have been seen all over the world.

Colin will be talking about his famous detective at a festival talk called From Books To Box at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust tonight.

This is the fourth year the festival has been held and events run all week until May Day Monday Bank Holiday.

Other highlights include award-winning TV vet Luke Gamble talking tomorrow on about his autobiography My Wild And Wonderful Friends, Hideous Kinky writer Esther Freud on Wednesday on her latest novel Lucky Break and BBC Radio 2 presenter Mark Radcliffe talking about his book Reelin’ In The Years - The Soundtrack Of A Northern Life on Thursday.

Top crime writer Sophie Hannah offers Crime And A Curry on Friday as she talks about her new novel Lasting Damage during a two course curry supper.
