Christmas may be over but panto season is still in full swing. And a new production is set to start in Coventry today (Saturday 6).

Community panto Puss in Boots is coming to the Albany Theatre from today, with a run lasting until Sunday, January 14. With music and fun it’s described as a fantastically feline family treat.

The show stars people from Coventry who are joined by a volunteer creative team. Together they hope to produce something special in the 1930s Art Deco auditorium.

The lead roles include local actors; Megan Mabilleau as Puss in Boots and Colin, Adam Holst as Billy Donut, April Royce as the Princess, Ian Finnie and Jessica Moore as the King and Queen, Sheryl Inman as the Dogsbody, Paul Sanders as Baron, Katie Carey as the Spirit and Chris Arnold as Dam Daisy Donut.

Over 100 young performers auditioned to be in the Children’s Chorus, and it was took some tough decisions to whittle it down to the final 50 cast across two groups of 25, as the talent on audition day was incredible.

This year the theatre welcomes a new Musical Director, Josh Deakin, to its panto family.

He said: “From growing up performing on this stage as a child, it has been a great privilege and full circle moment to be the Musical Director for the Albany Theatre Panto this year and to work with so many incredibly talented performers and the amazing production team.”

He added: “Each week in rehearsals the vocals get stronger, and it has been lovely to watch the younger chorus grow in confidence each week. Every member of the company has put so much time and effort into every part of the performance and I can’t wait till show week and see it all come together. A show not to be missed and I am very proud to be a part of it.”

Albany’s Chief Executive and Artistic Director, Kevin Shaw said: “Rehearsals are in full swing, and all the cast and crew are working hard. It is great to see our new participatory studios being put to great use already. The cast are looking amazing and who doesn’t love a classic British pantomime at Christmas. We cannot wait to open to audiences in January!”

Performance times are at 2pm and 7pm with tickets starting from £17 with family and group discounts available.
