On-loan Crewe left-back Chris Hussey has returned to Coventry City after suffering an injury in only his second training session at Gresty Road.

The 21-year-old has gone back to his parent club for treatment after the recurrence of a metatarsal injury.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "He trained with us twice and looked as though he would fit the bill.

"But he had the recurrence of an injury that kept him out for a few weeks and he's back at Coventry."

Former AFC Wimbledon defender Hussey signed on Thursday to provide competition for regular left-back Danny Blanchett.

But Gradi admitted he may not have been ready to return to senior football after the original injury.

"Whether he's cracked (the metatarsal) again we're not quite sure, he'll be reassessed when he goes back," the Crewe manager said.

"It looks as though the lad wasn't really ready to play.

"Either way it's disappointing for the boy and disappointing for us."

The injury will however offer a reprieve for Blanchett whose form had dipped ahead of Saturday's clash at League Two rivals Morecambe.

"He was doing well up until a little while ago when he got an injury and went out of the team," said Gradi.

"When he's come back he's made some strange decisions and has been beaten very easily.

"But he's got a great attitude, he's popular here and we'd all love him to do well."
