Sheffield Wednesday scored a 93rd-minute winner at Coventry City to leave the Sky Blues with just one win in seven matches.

Jack Rudoni gave Coventry the lead in the first half, and they created enough to back up the midweek win over Blackburn with another three points.

But Djeidi Gassama levelled on the stroke of half-time and Shea Charles slotted home in stoppage time to secure a second win in three games.

Wednesday climb to 15th in the early-season Championship table, while Coventry head into the international break a point above the drop zone.

The Sky Blues started the better and carved out the first chance inside five minutes, but Haji Wright dragged his shot wide.

Brandon Thomas-Asante's cross almost led to a goal for Ephron Mason-Clark, but he could not find the target.

But on 26 minutes, with the first shot on target, Rudoni put Coventry in front. The midfielder drove forward from his own half and struck into the bottom corner with a powerful effort.

Ben Wilson saved from 20-year-old Charles 10 minutes before the break, but he was beaten by Gassama's powerful finish in added time, restoring parity.

Wright was denied on the hour by a brilliant Barry Bannan block, before clipping the bar from the resulting corner as Coventry pushed for a second.

Thomas-Asante almost restored Coventry's lead but nobody could connect with his low effort, while Wednesday had the ball in the net from Bannan's corner but play was brought back for a foul.

The hosts piled the pressure on as they frantically looked for a late winner, but it was Wednesday who found it in stoppage time.

Anthony Musaba ran through the Coventry defence before the ball found Charles, who finished well to complete the turnaround.

Coventry City manager Mark Robins told BBC Radio CWR:

“We shot ourselves in the foot. There are a lot of disappointments, the goals conceded and we lost the game.

"We conceded in first-half stoppage time and second-half injury time. Even though Sheffield Wednesday made changes, they still played in midweek.

“You’ve got to make the best of it, and we didn’t; we let them off the hook. The game management wasn’t good enough; we need to be better at that.

“It is so disappointing. We are giving so many goals away and so many games away. We like to think we are a really good team; we’ve got to show it more regularly.”
