Two goal lead given up and man sent off
Coventry City gave up a two goal lead and had a man sent off at Millwall where they slipped to a disappointing 3-2 defeat in a thoroughly entertaining game at The Den.
The Sky Blues came flying out of the blocks, getting at their opponents from the first minute and getting themselves ahead in the third when Kyle McFadzean scored with a close range finish from a flicked on header from Matty Godden from a Gus Hamer corner.
Godden then had the ball in the back of the net again two minutes later but his was ruled out for off-side as the Sky Blues terrorised the Lions from the off. But there was no flag in the 28th minute when Jake Bidwell sent in an early cross to the box where the striker stretched to connect with the delivery and wrong-footed the keeper by sending it back across him and inside the side netting to make it 2-0.
City then shot themselves in the foot to concede in the 36th minute when goalkeeper Simon Moore raced out to punch a floated in free-kick, only for centre-back Jake Cooper to get his head on the ball first and send it into an unguarded net to reduce the deficit for the home side.
Millwall then pulled level early in the second half when a Tyler Burey shot thumped the far post and fell kindly to George Honeyman who was first to react to fire home the rebound past the committed Moore to make it 2-2 with 53 minutes on the clock.
The visitors then pressed the self destruct button again when Hamer was shown a second yellow card and sent off in the 67th minute for taking out Burey in his own half as the Millwall player attempted to spark a counter attack, leaving Coventry down to ten men and handing the Lions the upper hand.
And the home side got the winner with five minutes to go when substitute George Saville nipped onto a loose ball in the box and squeezed a shot between McFadzean and Panzo to beat Moore at his far post.
