Coventry City have fallen victim to a third fixture postponement of the festive period after Luton Town have been successful in their request to the EFL to call off Saturday’s New Year’s Day match at the CBS Arena.

The Sky Blues, who were thumped 5-0 by the Hatters in late September, were due to face the club in the return league game this weekend.

Town have already missed three consecutive matches over the Christmas period, their latest postponement coming last night when they were due to travel to Swansea City.

The Bedfordshire-based side made a successful request for a postponement to the League on Tuesday.

City now face a backlog of three Championship fixtures to be squeezed in during the second half of the season.

City today issued a statement confirming the latest postponement:

Coventry City are disappointed to confirm that our New Year’s Day home game against Luton Town has been postponed.

Luton informed the EFL yesterday afternoon that they will be unable to fulfil the fixture as scheduled on Saturday 1st January at the Coventry Building Society Arena due to an outbreak of COVID-19 amongst their squad and staff.

We share the disappointment and frustration of our supporters that another one of our fixtures has been postponed due to COVID cases in our opponents’ squads, following the postponement of our games against Stoke City and Cardiff City due to circumstances beyond our control.

Our next game is Saturday 8th January when we host Derby County in the Emirates FA Cup.

Details regarding the re-arranged fixture against Luton Town will be communicated in due course. Tickets purchased for the Luton game will be valid for the re-arranged fixture once this is confirmed.

For any fans who are not able to attend a re-arranged fixture versus Luton, Coventry City are offering fans the opportunity to be able to transfer their ticket/hospitality purchase to another league game.

This can be done via the following channels:
