Coventry City's home game against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend has been postponed.

The Owls have reported a number of positive cases of COVID-19 and the EFL have acted to postpone the fixture until a later date.

Although a number of Championship clubs have been hit by postponements, including Millwall who sat out two games prior to Mark Robins's men getting three points at The Den recently, City have so avoided any cancellations.

The Sky Blues continue to have a clean bill of health with all players and members of staff returning a negative result from the club's latest round of twice weekly testing.

Wednesday were short of a number of senior players over the weekend after a COVID-19 outbreak at the club.

They were left with just four substitutes for their FA Cup trip to Exeter City, while sports scientist, Jeremy Poulson, had to take the goalkeepers for their pre-match warm ups.

It's understood that those who were unable to feature at St James Park either tested positive or are isolating after coming into contact with somebody who tested positive.

The club’s Middlewood Road training ground has been closed with players training from home.
A club statement from the Sky Blues read:

Coventry City can confirm that this Saturday’s home game against Sheffield Wednesday has been postponed.

Sheffield Wednesday have informed the EFL that they will be unable to fulfil the fixture as scheduled on Saturday 16 January due to an outbreak of COVID-19 amongst their squad and staff.

All at Coventry City wish those affected at Sheffield Wednesday a speedy recovery.

Details regarding the re-arranged fixture will be communicated in due course.

We can confirm that there have been no COVID-19 positive tests at Coventry City in our latest testing this week

The Sky Blues squad will now prepare for our next game on Tuesday 19 January against Reading (6pm KO).

Supporters who have purchased a match pass to watch the Sheffield Wednesday game on iFollow will be automatically refunded in due course.
