The Sky Blues earned a decent clean sheet and point against Luton Town

Coventry City earned their sixth Championship draw in a frustrating and physical game against mid-table Luton Town.

But it was a decent clean sheet and point that extended the Sky Blues’ unbeaten run to six games.

The game started at a frantic pace and very little quality as Town attempted to assert their authority, pressing high up the pitch and City struggling to get their passing game going.

Luton edged the early possession as Coventry played a game of containment in a scrappy affair that didn’t produce an effort on goal until 18 minutes in when Callum O’Hare hit a shot from distance that took a deflection for the first of three corners, from which they couldn’t capitalise.

The lively O’Hare was involved in a well-worked move when he cut inside, beating two players in the process, and slipped Tyler Walker in to the left of goal where the striker hit a powerful left foot shot onto the foot of the near post as the home side began to grow into the game.

But just as the Sky Blues looked to be in the ascendancy, Town enjoyed a spell of pressure, slinging a string of dangerous balls into the box looking for Coventry-born striker James Collins who spooned a decent opportunity high over the bar, while also testing City’s resolve from a free-kick and two corners in quick succession.

City made a positive start to the second half when wing-back Sam McCallum began to get forward with more purpose while Gus Hamer tested the keeper with Coventry’s first shot on target as late as the 57th minute.

Max Biamou headed wide at the near post from a decent Fankaty Dabo delivery but clear cut chances were few and far between from either side.

Both sides made changes as they looked for a decisive goal in an end-to-end last ten minutes of a poor game that ended goalless.

"Decent clean sheet", on their own turf against a mid-table visitor?

Coventry & Luton share drab goalless draw

Coventry City, the team with the Championship's leakiest defence, made it six games unbeaten as they held Luton Town to a goalless draw at St Andrew's.

The Sky Blues and Hatters managed just two shots on target between them - but both sides seemed happy to settle for a point.

Luton had lost their last two away games and, for Coventry, it was a third clean sheet to enjoy for Sky Blues boss Mark Robins in that six-game run.

Coventry came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half when Callum O'Hare neatly set up Tyler Walker, who hit the post with an effort from a tight angle.

But Luton went close too when top scorer James Collins headed Harry Cornick's cross just wide.

The Hatters are now unbeaten in their last four league meetings with Coventry, having previously had a desperate record against them.

And, after successive beatings in south Wales in their previous two games at Cardiff and Swansea, Luton's first clean sheet on the road since 26 October was a good response by Nathan Jones' Hatters.

Coventry now head this Saturday to Wycombe, with whom they were promoted last season, looking for a throwback to last season's 4-1 Matt Godden-inspired away win.

Sky Blues manager Mark Robins told BBC CWR:

"We struggled to find the energy. We didn't make any changes from Saturday and we were just a little bit lacking.

"We didn't keep the ball well enough and couldn't find that little but of inspiration and width.

"It's not a big squad. We have limited options. But, in the end, I'll settle for a point and a clean sheet and we're six games unbeaten now."
