An injury-time equaliser from Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer denied Derby caretaker Wayne Rooney a first Championship win

The Rams, bottom of the table and without a victory since 3 October, had looked set to end their long wait for a three points when Colin Kazim-Richards gave them a late lead from Nathan Byrne's deep cross.

Jack Stretton had the chance to wrap the points up for the hosts but hit the crossbar from close range after Kazim-Richards had done brilliantly to tee him up.

Hamer snatched a point for the visitors with a crisp low strike from the edge of the area after the Rams failed to clear a ball into the box.

The draw is the second time in two games that the Rams have had to settle for a point after taking the lead, with Wycombe also leaving Pride Park with a draw thanks to a late equaliser on Saturday.

They will be left to rue Stretton's missed chance as the teenager could only direct his close-range shot onto the bar when a goal would surely have secured the win.

Coventry, who equalised in the last minute to draw at Norwich on Saturday, will feel they were worth their point as they stretched their unbeaten run to four games thanks to Hamer's third of the season.

Derby visit Millwall on Saturday looking to end their 11-match winless run, while Mark Robins' men host Rotherham.

The Sky Blues came from behind to earn a point at Pride Park

Gus Hamer scored a stoppage time leveller as Coventry City come from behind at bottom of the league Derby County to earn their fifth Championship draw of the season.

The Rams took the late lead seven minutes from time when Colin Kazim-Richards headed home at the far post but the Sky Blues snatched a point in the second minute of overtime.

The Sky Blues started positively enough with plenty of early possession but it was the home side who carved out the first decent attack when tricky wide man Duane Holmes got down the right and sent in a deep cross to the back post which was met by the head of target man Colin Kazim-Richards before Derby were penalised for a foul in the box.

City then created a decent opening when Ryan Giles sent in a lovely early ball across the face of goal with Tyler Walker and Callum O’Hare both stretching to get a crucial touch in the six-yard box both neither able to connect.

Jordan Shipley had City’s first attempt on target when he timed his run to perfection to get on the end of a long ball up from Kyle McFadzean, only to head straight into the keeper’s arms, before Gus Hamer tested David Marshall for the first time with a 25-yard shot.

Kazim-Richards, meanwhile, found himself treading a disciplinary tightrope after picking up an early yellow card for a foul on Dom Hyam and then committing another foul to earn a talking to from the referee.

City had a scare on the half hour mark when the centre-forward controlled the ball with his back to goal, turned to give Hyam the slip but fired wide across the face of goal.

There was controversy at the other end when a Derby mix-up at the back resulted in O’Hare getting in behind the keeper and stretching to touch the ball which trickled agonisingly wide as the midfielder appeared to be fouled in the process. But his appeals for a penalty were waved away by Dean Whitestone.

Keeper Ben Wilson was tested for the first time when he parried a powerful Max Bird shot away while City had a goal disallowed for off-side from a free-kick just before the break, Tyler Walker sending a looping header over the keeper from a Hamer delivery.

It continued to be a relatively tight affair at the start of the second half with chances few and far between until the referee incurred the wrath of the Rams when Dom Hyam appeared to foul Tom Lawrence in the area, only for the man in black to wave play on amid widespread appeals for a penalty.

O’Hare sent a glancing header inches wide from a superb Giles’ centre as the game livened up with end to end attacks, Kazim-Richards heading over unmarked for Derby.

But the big man made no mistake in the 83rd minute when he got on the end of a deep cross to the far post to head home to give the home side the lead.

City, however, continued to push and got their rewards in stoppage time when Hamer drilled home a loose ball from outside the box to earn a deserved point.
