The Sky Blues were in action against the Championship leaders today, earning a late point at Carrow RoadMax Biamou secured a valuable and deserved point for Coventry City against the Championship leaders at Carrow Road.
The Sky Blues fell behind to a controversial first half penalty against a Norwich City side who looked there for the taking.
Mark Robins's men battled back, dominated the second half and finally got their rewards in the 89th minute when fifth City substitute Biamou turned in from close range.
City made a positive start to the game against the league leaders who were forced to field a makeshift side due to 12 seniors players being out either injured or suspended.
But as you’d expect with any Norwich side, they kept the ball well and knocked it about nicely in the first half when they enjoyed 61 per cent of the possession.
Coventry’s best attack and first chance of the game came on 14 minutes when Ryan Giles drove forward down the left and sent in a decent cross which Callum O’Hare headed well wide of the target.
Fankaty Dabo then created another opportunity five minutes later when he pulled the ball back from the byline for Jamie Allen who sent a stooping header disappointingly over the bar.
Ben Wilson, making his full league debut in place of the injured Marko Marosi, then pulled off three impressive saves in quick succession to deny first Marco Stiepermann and then two from Prezemyslaw Placheta after the home side piled on the pressure, getting in behind far too easily.
But the keeper conceded a penalty on 25 minutes when he raced out to stop Placheta, throwing himself at the ball but catching the forward’s feet in the process.
Coventry players protested at what looked like a harsh decision but the referee pointed to the spot and Mario Vrancic slotted home down the middle to give Norwich the lead.
The visitors finished the half strongly and continued that momentum in the second period when Amadou Bakayoko headed narrowly over from a Giles’ centre.
Robins made three changes just after the hour mark, sending on Tyler Walker, Gus Hamer and Jordan Shipley for Bakayoko, Allen and Sheaf as he looked to get something out of the game.
And they went close pulling level minutes later when Giles pulled the ball back for O’Hare who was denied by Michael McGovern at his near post – the keeper’s first save of the afternoon.
Max Biamou and Wes Jobello added further attacking options when they went on for Liam Kelly and Dabo for the last 14 minutes when Dom Hyam headed wide from a late corner when he should really have hit the target.
Kyle McFadzean was then denied by the keeper from a Hamer free-kick as City kept pushing but couldn’t quite find a way through.
But Biamou was in the right place at the right time at the death to secure the point.
