Coventry City conceded another stoppage time goal to suffer their second away League One defeat of the season at bogey club Shrewsbury Town.

The Sky Blues gave up a half-time lead at mid-table Town, where Jordan Shipley had put them ahead. But second half goals from Scott Golbourne and a late winner from Shaun Whalley sent Coventry home empty handed from a dreadful game of football.

Mark Robins’s men were bullied from start to finish by a big and physical home side, ensuring the visitors extended their dreadful run in Shropshire where they have managed just one win - back in 1958 - in 18 attempts.

City got their noses in front midway through a scrappy first half at Montgomery Waters Meadow, where the home side imposed their physicality and bullied their opponents out of their stride.

And it seemed to be working until the 26th minute when Jamie Allen raced to the byline and pulled back a looping cross for Shipley to head home his fifth goal of the season, and second in as many games.

The Shrews continued to stifle the Sky Blues with a packed midfield frustrating them for long periods of a really poor game, and then got themselves back on level terms from a 68th minute corner.

Coventry failed to deal with the flag kick and a goalmouth scramble resulted in the ball being cleared off the line but then poked home by Golbourne.

City continued to struggle to get their free-flowing attacking game going in a bad tempered and ugly affair with a catalogue of fouls and an off-the-ball incident that resulted in Sam McCallum needing treatment.

And they were hit with a late counter attack that saw substitutes Ryan Giles and Whalley combine with a good cross to the back post where the latter volleyed home the winner with 90+1 on the clock.

Attendance: 7,336 (1,529 City)
