Ten man Sky Blues played out a goalless draw with 18th placed Accrington Stanley in arguably their worst performance at St Andrew’s.

City managed just two attempts on target by the time fans’ favourite Max Biamou was shown a straight red card for leading with his elbow midway through the second half, and that shot count hadn’t improved by the time the referee brought an end to the game.

Liam Kelly tested the opposition keeper for the first time as early as the sixth minute as Coventry made a positive start to the match which quickly went down hill, turning into an extremely scrappy first half affair devoid of any real quality and including plenty of stray passes.

Although City dominated possession, enjoying 66 per cent in the opening half, they struggled to break down the visitors, managing just four attempts on goal with Kelly the only player to hit the target, but were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Sam McCallum appeared to have been brought down five minutes from the break.

Stanley also only had one shot on target, a low Joe Pritchard effort that was denied by a routine save by Marko Marosi, while former Leamignton striker Colby Bishop headed onto the roof of the net – the closest the visitors came to scoring all game.

Biamou doubled City’s shot on target count two minutes after the break when he latched onto a long kick from the keeper, but it was a comfortable save for Dimitar Evtimov.

Callum O’Hare carved out a terrific chance with a decent ball in from the right on the hour which Biamou set for Amadou Bakayoko, only for the big striker to check onto his right foot and fire disappointingly over the bar.

City then found themselves down to ten men when Biamou was sent off for leading with his elbow in a challenge with defender Mark Hughes before O’Hare had a goal ruled out for a foul by Bakayoko in the build-up.

The home side kept plugging away with Jordan Shipley and Liam Walsh providing fresh legs but Mark Robins’s men lacked the quality and composure in the final third to find the all important goal – their point enough to keep them in sixth place.
