Sky Blues march on

Coventry City continued their impressive unbeaten run in the division with a decent point at Burton Albion that was enough to take them to top of the league.

Both sides hit the post in either half in a game in which neither keeper was really tested to any degree in an entertaining game at the Pirelli Stadium.

But a fifth clean sheet and results elsewhere ensured Mark Robins’s men ended the day in top spot, above second placed Ipswich Town by a point.

It was a tight first half at Burton where the Brewers edged possession but City had the better of the chances, forcing five shots at goal in the opening 45, albeit only managing to get one – a long range effort from Liam Walsh – on target, while the home side were limited to just two efforts, both of which failed to trouble the keeper.

Zain Westbrooke went closest to breaking the deadlock when he hit the inside of the far post with Jordy Hiwula unable to convert the rebound as the game ebbed and flowed with both sides enjoying spells of pressure but unable to find a clinical touch or extra bit of quality to make the difference.

Both started the second half with more purpose as Marko Marosi was tested for the first time from an angled shot from Lucas Akins which he touched wide for a corner, Wes Jobello having hit a shot straight to the Albion keeper a minute before.

Robins attempted to ramp things up just after the hour when he sent on Callum O’Hare and Gervane Kastaneer as the game remained evenly balanced, able to go either way with end to end action but few clear cut chances to show for it.

Hiwula tested the keeper with a stinging shot to the near post on 75 minutes after City had weathered a spell of pressure before Matty Godden was played through by O’Hare but fired over after turning brilliantly.

City conceded a foul just outside the box with ten minutes to go resulting in sub Nathan Broadhead curling in a shot that beat Marosi but hit the post before Kastaneer and Hiwula combined late on, but the latter couldn’t quite connect at the far post in an end to end climax to the game with both sides going for the win.
