Who said goalless draws are boring?

Goalless draws are supposed to be boring.

But this 0-0 encounter at Kingsmeadow had it all. Except for a goal, of course.

Stunning saves from both goalkeepers, a host of missed chances and the inside of the post to thank for a Sky Blue clean sheet.

Oh, and just to add to the excitement there was an injury to the corner flag incase the afternoon didn’t have enough entertainment.

Gritty, dogged and determined - City battled right until the end to earn a share of the spoils and get their season up-and-running with a well-earned point.

In truth they should have been behind by the break but lady luck saved them.

Liam O’Brien, who kept his place in goal, saved superbly to stop a deflected effort from Kewsi Appiah nestling in the bottom corner.

Then on the stroke of half-time, Appiah struck the inside of the post with a glancing header that really should have opened the scores.

Tom Bayliss impressed for the visitors once again - setting up two chances for debutant Amadou Bakayoko.

The first he screwed up, taking a heavy touch after a fine run from the talented teenager to put him through on goal.

The second - after the break - saw Tom King stand tall and save as Bakayoko tried to dink it over his body.

But the best stop was still to come.

Maxime Biamou came on to replace Bakayoko and was denied by a wonder save on 75 minutes.

His 20-yard effort was heading for the top corner but summer signing King somehow tipped it over the bar.

The closing stages were nervy but City held on to record the draw.
