Jonson Clarke-Harris clinches victory with a late winner

Coventry City snatched a valuable three points in a dreadful game against League Two basement club Barnet in their first ever trip to the stadium and the city.

A late tap-in from two yards from Jonson Clarke-Harris secured the victory for the Sky Blues who made hard work of their game against a fired up Bees side who could have been 3-0 up before the No.9’s crucial 75th minute clincher – his only attempt on goal all afternoon.

The visitors looked by far the more likely to score prior the far post finish from a hard and low Marc McNulty cross, being denied three times by goalkeeper Lee Burge.

City were lucky not to be behind in a woeful first half from the home side as Burge made two vital stops – one a brilliant one-handed save – to deny the lively Shaquile Coulthirst on the counter attack, and another early in the second half to prevent Ryan Watson from breaking the deadlock.

Grahem Westley’s strugglers were by far the more threatening in front of goal as they enjoyed eight first half attempts, five of which hit the target, compared to just three from the Sky Blues who didn’t trouble the keeper once in the opening 45.

That shot count shot up to 15 (six on target) for the Bees ten minutes into the second half as Coventry looked in real danger of slipping up at home.

McNulty went closest for Coventry when he had a shot blocked and sent another inches wide early in a scrappy affair with a distinct lack of quality from Mark Robins’s men.

Chances continued to be few and far between in an improved second half when McNulty again had the best effort when he got on the end of a Liam Kelly cross but his downward header bounced up and over the keeper and the bar.

But the leading scorer turned provider 15 minutes from time as Clarke-Harris put the supporters out of their misery and send City up into seventh spot.
