Jonson Clarke-Harris grabs a consolation goal as Sky Blues' FA Cup run ends

Coventry City were comfortably brushed aside by Brighton and Hove Albion in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The home side’s Premier League class was simply too much for the League Two Sky Blues who can now concentrate fully on their league ambitions.

Record £14million Dutch striker Jurgen Locadia took just 14 minutes to open his account on his Albion debut, slotting home all too easily in the box before centre-half Connor Goldson doubled the lead just after the half hour to give the home side a comfortable lead going into the break.

It might have been different had Jonson Clarke-Harris’s powerful header gone in rather than rattling the crossbar minutes before the opening goal, while Josh Barrett almost reduced the deficit when he volleyed agonisingly wide from 25-yards out.

But that was the closest City got to Brighton’s goal in a difficult first half at the Amex Stadium.

Argentine Leonardo Ulloa made it 3-0 on the hour but the visitors kept on plugging away and got their rewards when Clarke-Harris popped up with a well struck consolation goal 14 minutes from time, having clipped the post again in a gutsy second half showing from City.

The big and bustling centre-forward was one of the stand out Coventry players on the day and his performance certainly bodes well for the the rest of the season if he can translate that sort of form into the league.

Robins made four changes to his side, dropping four players – Rod McDonald, Chris Stokes, Peter Vincenti and Max Biamou – from Tuesday night's League Two defeat at Colchester United.

In came Jack Grimmer, returning from a two game absence with injury, and Ryan Haynes to the back four while Josh Barrett came in on the right wing and Clarke-Harris replaced Max Biamou up top.

Seagulls’ boss Chris Hughton, meanwhile, made a whopping nine changes to his side who eased their eay into the quarter-final draw.
