The Sky Blues take on Accrington Stanley this weekend

Coventry City have almost tripled their average home gate with five days still to go until the club entertain promotion rivals Accrington Stanley at the Ricoh Arena.

The Sky Blues are doing a special promotion for the match by offering thousands of free tickets to Coventry school children as well as discounted prices throughout the stadium of just £5 for tickets bought in advance for the ‘Community Day’ event.

Mark Robins ’s men will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after Saturday’s disappointing defeat at League Two strugglers Forest Green Rovers, and hope that a bumper crowd will help the team make it an impressive eight wins in a row in all competitions on home soil.

More than 23,000 tickets have been snapped up for the game so far, either sold or given away to local schools as the club looks to fill the 32,000 seater stadium with as many fans as possible.

The club are estimating around 27,000 on the day, which would be the highest Sky Blues crowd since 27,306 turned out for the club's return to the Ricoh against Gillingham in September 2014, following just over a year in exile at Northampton Town's Sixfields Stadium.

City's highest attendance at the ground is 31,407 against Chelsea in the quarter final of the FA Cup back in March 2009, and the second highest was 31,054 against Crewe Alexandra in the Checkatrade Trophy area final exactly five years ago today (Feb 5) 2013.

Supporters are being given access to all areas of the ground, including the North Stand which is normally closed on matchdays.

Just 2,828 fans were at the reverse fixture between Accrington and City last October when the Sky Blue Army outnumbered the home fans at the Wham Stadium where Robins's men suffered a 1-0 defeat.

All tickets are just £5 when bought in advance, or £10 when bought on the day, with no booking fee and no price zones.

There are a number of attractions, give-aways and offers on the day including a fan village in the Ericsson Exhibition Hall from midday, free off-site car parking thanks to RicohArenaCarParking.co.uk, 3000 clap banners handed out as the club show its support for the Kick It Out campaign, a City of Culture 2021 celebration, while Premium Lounge tickets are reduced to £12.
