Max Biamou scores the winner to keep the FA Cup adventure rolling

A single goal from Max Biamou sent Coventry City through to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in almost a decade at League One strugglers MK Dons.

Backed by an incredible near 8,000-strong Sky Blue Army, Mark Robins’s League Two fliers dumped the Dons out of the famous competition to book their place in Monday’s draw and the possibility of a money spinning clash with one of the Premier League big guns.

The home side were largely on the front foot in the first half when City were forced to defend in numbers, blocking and clearing numerous shots and crosses into the box in a hard fought battle at stadium:mk where each and every Coventry player put their bodies on the line.

It was the visitors who made home keeper Lee Nicholls work the hardest in the opening 45 with both Max Biamou and Marc McNulty being denied by decent saves in a goalless first period.

McNulty went close again early in the second half when the Dons continued to dominate possession and force Coventry to play on the counter attack, but Robins’s men grew in confidence as the half went on when the striker played a key role in giving his side the lead.

Receiving the ball out wide on the right, McNulty hit a hard and low cross to the near post where Biamou got a vital touch to send the ball in off the post to send the Sky Blue Army wild with celebration.

City’s 7,873 out numbered the home contingent who numbered 7,052 in a 14,925 crowd, and the travelling faithful played their part, getting right behind their team to help them see out the game which went into six long minutes of overtime.

Coventry were hanging on at the end, although they could have killed the game off when Ben Stevenson was denied by a late save, but the players battled to the end and fought til the game was won.
