Sky Blues pegged back after Marc McNulty's opener

Coventry City let a slender goal lead slip at the Lamex to deny them what would have been a third successive League Two victory on the road.

The Sky Blues got their noses in front through Marc McNulty midway through a scrappy first half and looked good for all three points until mid-table Stevenage pulled level 15 minutes from time.

But it was a costly night for the visitors who lost midfielder Liam Kelly in the first half and star man Jodi Jones in the second, both to injury with the latter having to be stretchered off.

City looked good for the win after McNulty pounced to give City a 21st minute lead when he was first to react to a Jordan Shipley corner into the six yard box where the keeper made a save from an initial effort before the striker poked it over the line from close range.

The visitors were forced to defend a string of balls into the box in a scrappy first half but maintained their slender lead going into the break – a costly half in terms of injuries with Liam Kelly forced off in the 19th minute.

City’s injury woes continued in the second half when Jodi Jones – who started coming into his own after the break – was stretchered off just after the hour after appearing to fall awkwardly.

Coventry were without suspended leading scorer Duckens Nazon who was sorely missed on the night.
