A Coventry City fan has been banned from going to matches again after hurling a glass at police officers.

Ryan Teeling narrowly avoided being sent to prison and was told he has one “last chance” to mend his “yobbish behaviour”.

The 24-year-old was among a group of Sky Blues fans who clashed with Millwall supporters outside the Wheatsheaf pub following the sides’ League One clash earlier this year.

He was given a three-year football banning order (FBO) and a suspended prison sentence.

Teeling has previously been the subject of banning orders having once been caught at a game with a CS gas canister in his pocket.

He told police he had been attacked at a previous game and it was for protection.

Violence erupted on the afternoon of April 16 this year following the Coventry-Millwall match and Teeling, an apprentice bricklayer, was watching on from the doorway of the pub.

He then threw a glass at police officers who were trying to keep the two sets of fighting fans apart.

His actions were caught on CCTV and he was arrested a month later.

Teeling, who recently moved from Coventry to Wolston, pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening behaviour and was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday.

He was handed a three-year FBO which bans him from entering a specified area around the Ricoh Arena when Coventry City are playing home games.

This is in place for three hours before any game, during the game and three hours afterwards.

Teeling is also banned from being in any town or city when the Sky Blues are playing there.

Judge Stephen Eyre also gave him an eight-week prison sentence suspended for two years and warned Teeling: “This was yobbish behaviour outside a pub. You are not a child anymore - people who do these things must be punished.

“This is your last chance. You will not get another chance. It’s entirely down to you.”

Teeling was also ordered to undertake 100 hours unpaid work and given a two-month curfew from 7pm-5am.
