Next Coventry City Manager - Aidy Boothroyd backed

Postby dutchman » Wed May 19, 2010 2:42 pm

Aidy Boothroyd has shot to the head of Sky Bet’s next Coventry City manager betting following a sudden run of bets today on the Colchester United boss.

Boothroyd has been backed down from 10/1 to 1/4 today to succeed Chris Coleman, who was sacked in early May.

Sky Bet’s football betting spokeswoman Helen Jacob said: “This substantial gamble has come out of the blue given that Boothroyd does not seem to have been linked with Coventry, so we are keenly watching out for news emanating from the Ricoh Arena.

“They are currently taking any price we put up and a number of new accounts have been opened specifically to back Boothroyd to join the Sky Blues.”

Notts County boss Steve Cotterill was strongly linked with the Sky Blues this week but can now be backed at 7/2.

Former frontrunner Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irivine was eased to 16/1 after he said he has no interest in leaving the Owls for the Championship outfit.

I don't know much about football but these big money bets are seldom wrong.

Boothroyd on Sky Blues' radar

Sky Sports sources understand Coventry City are eyeing Colchester United boss Aidy Boothroyd as their next manager after cooling their interest in Steve Cotterill.

The Sky Blues sacked Chris Coleman at the end of the season after a 19th-placed finish to the 2009-10 campaign and have since being looking for a replacement.

City have been heavily linked with a move for Cotterill this week after he guided Notts County to promotion as League Two champions.

The fact that Cotterill had only signed a short-term deal with the Magpies until the end of the season further fuelled speculation he was going to be appointed the next manager at the Ricoh Arena.

But it now appears that Coventry have ended their pursuit of the former Cheltenham, Stoke and Burnley chief and have turned their attention to Colchester boss Boothroyd, who was Watford's manager in their 2006-07 season in the Premier League.

At least his shirt is already the right colour!

Looks like this is the way of it, press conference called with Boothroyd expected to be unveiled.

I'm in two minds about this. He did well to get Watford performing well, even got them promoted. But then again, is it the name that's going to bring the crowds flocking back through the turnstiles? I guess the only way wwe'll know is to give the guy some time.
