Coventry City supporters are being forced to fork out more than visiting fans for tickets to tonight’s EFL Cup tie against Portsmouth at the Ricoh Arena.

The Sky Blue Army will be forced to pay a total of £16 for an adult ticket to the clash at the Ricoh because a compulsory £1 Ticketmaster booking fee will be added to the cost of all tickets.

Adults will pay £16 (£15 + booking fee), concessions will be charged £11 (£10 + booking fee) and junior will have to pay £6 (£5 + booking fee). The extra £1 charge applies to each individual ticket purchased.

But Pompey fans will not be hit with the £1 Ticketmaster charge, meaning they will have to pay out £1 less for every tickets they purchase for the fixture.

Coventry City’s official Twitter account explained that this was because Portsmouth did not use Ticketmaster.

One Tweet to a supporter read: “They do not use our Ticketmaster ticketing system - the fee is related to that.”

The additional Ticketmaster charge has come under fire from Coventry City supporters after it emerged there would be no cash turnstiles for tonight’s match which will kick off at 7.45pm.

Supporters will have to use the club’s ‘expanded Matchday Ticket Office’ at the Ricoh Arena instead, which means there will be no way of avoiding the additional £1 charge.

Asked if there would be cash turnstiles available for future games, a spokesman for Coventry City said: “As part of the Ticketmaster contract we’re piloting the expanded matchday ticket office and encouraging fans to use that method.”

Coventry City appointed Ticketmaster to handle its ticketing in April this year. Since then, there has been criticism from some fans over the booking fees imposed.
