Sky Blues supporters vented their anger as the Football League’s board met yesterday afternoon to discuss the latest on Coventry City’s administration – and plans to play 35 miles outside the city.

They include die-hard Sky Blues fans whose relatives are commemorated at the Ricoh Arena by scattered ashes and memorial bricks.

Fans also took to social media to urge fellow supporters to write in protest to Football League , Northampton Town and their MP.

Northampton Town chairman David Cardoza yesterday reiterated it was not yet a done deal, although Telegraph sources were adamant a deal in principle had been struck.

Sky Blues fans were also yesterday contacting the Cobblers’ own fans’ trust, which was seeking supporters’ views on whether revenue from the Sky Blues – potentially around £100,000 – would be a reasonable price to pay for controversy, bad publicity, damage to the pitch from extra games, and problems arranging fixtures.

As we reported, it is believed revenue could contribute to Northampton Town’s stadium expansion plans – for which a £12million council cash injection was announced yesterday.

The Football League’s current fixture list shows Sky Blues and Northampton Town home games clashing on a number of dates, including on the second weekend of the season, when Coventry City are due to play a ‘home’ match against Bristol City.

Some gathered yesterday outside the Ricoh Arena as the national media followed up on the Telegraph’s exclusive on our website the night before, and on yesterday’s front page.

The fans’ campaign ‘Not One Penny More’ (to Sky Blues owners Sisu) also gathered outside Sixfields yesterday evening.
