Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has been ordered to rest after being taken ill during training on Thursday.

The 45-year-old has undergone hospital tests and returned home after being been diagnosed with a virus.

Sky Blues coach Steve Harrison will take charge of the team for Saturday's M69 derby against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

"The overriding priority is his health and well-being," said chief executive Tim Fisher in a club statement.

"We have been speaking to him, his family and his medical staff on a regular basis.

"Everyone at the club wishes him well and we ask that he can be left in peace for the next few days."

Thorn has been in charge of the Sky Blues since taking over from Aidy Boothroyd in March, initially as caretaker manager.

Championship strugglers Coventry go into Saturday's game standing 22nd in the table after an encouraging run of two wins in three matches - now just two points adrift of safety.

But they have not won on the road in almost 11 months - and have not even picked up an away point in eight matches since 29 October.

They have not beaten the Foxes in five local derby meetings since February 2008, but four of those games were drawn.

VIRUS victim Andy Thorn spent last night at the Ricoh Arena Hotel because he was too ill to drive home after being rushed to hospital for tests, it has been revealed.

The Sky Blues boss will miss this weekend's M69 derby with Leicester City after becoming unwell during the Sky Blues' morning training session on Thursday.

And the 45-year-old has been told to rest over the weekend, leaving Steve Harrison in charge of team affairs and insisting City can break their away day duck against the Foxes.

The assistant manager insists he and the players want to do it for the “magnificent” crowd who he says are as good as any he has known in the game, and no doubt for Thorn as well after the news that he will be absent from the clash against the club’s fierce Midland rivals.

CCFC chief executive Tim Fisher said: “Andy has been released from hospital and is currently resting.

"We have been speaking to him, his family and his medical staff on a regular basis.

“The over-riding priority is his health and well-being.

"Everyone at the club wishes him well and we ask that he can left in peace for the next few days.
