INSTANT hero Alex Nimely is convinced that Coventry City can fight their way clear of the Championship relegation zone.

The Manchester City youngster opened his loan spell at the Ricoh by scoring one goal and logging two assists as the Sky Blues saw off promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough 3-1.

They remain bottom of the table, six points short of safety but Nimely has no doubts that they are in a false position.

“Definitely – I knew that before I came because I watched their last two games,” he said.

“I’ve only had a couple of training sessions but everybody was buzzing, trying to show the manager what they can do – and I was thinking ‘is this team really at the bottom?’

"The enthusiasm in the camp is very good and the most important thing is that we should keep moving forward, working hard and being consistent because that’s what you need in this league.

"We have to score goals and defend as a team and that’s what we did today.”

Nimely started the season on loan at Middlesbrough but was unable to make an impact at The Riverside where all of his nine Championship appearances were as a substitute.

“I was playing on the left or the right and I don’t like to play there to be honest,” he said.

“I’m a centre-forward – I like to score goals and create goals so when the gaffer said to me ‘you’re coming to Coventry to play in that position’ I was very happy.

“I was looking really forward to this game, especially not having played a lot of football in recent times, and I was delighted to play 90 minutes and score a goal.”

Equally delighted Sky Blues manager Andy Thorn said: “People hadn’t heard of him, but they know him now.
