Clouting, who had previously worked for Derby County and Ipswich Town, was appointed by Sky Blues owners SISU at the end of March.

His arrival came just days after the departure of chairman Ray Ranson.

Financially troubled Coventry, who are in the Championship relegation zone in 22nd place, are currently not commenting on Clouting's departure.

Clouting has often been the public face of the board, as some fans have protested about what they believe to be a lack of investment in the team.

Ranson, who left City for personal reasons, was replaced as chairman by Ken Dulieu.

A cash injection from SISU at the end of March prevented the club from going into administration.

Coventry were the subject of a takeover by Gary Hoffman in August, but the deal was rejected.

The former Sky Blues vice-chairman, whose group were offering to invest £30m, had been seeking to buy the entire share capital of the club for £1.

Meanwhile City's players will be donning black armbands for Saturday's game with Nottingham Forest as a mark of respect for former club physio Graham Jones, who passed away at the age of 70 on Friday, following a long battle with cancer.
