Clinton Morrison celebrates scoring Coventry's third goal

Stephen Foster hit the bar early on for the Tykes but two goals in three minutes put the Sky Blues in charge.

Freddy Eastwood headed his fifth goal in six games before Sammy Clingan doubled the advantage from 12 yards.

Jonathan Macken replied by heading in a cross by substitute Adam Hamill, who later had a shot blocked but substitute Clinton Morrison headed City's third.

Barnsley made the better start and Foster was denied from close range by Coventry goalkeeper Kieren Westwood and headed against the woodwork two minutes later.

Coventry hit back in the 18th minute when Aron Gunnarsson headed Clingan's cross goalwards and Carl Dickinson cleared before Leon Best blazed the rebound wide from six yards out.

At the other end Westwood superbly saved Hugo Colace's 20-yard volley before his side went ahead.

Eastwood headed home Stephen Wright's cross before Clingan volleyed in a loose ball to make it 2-0.

Barnsley boss Mark Robins made two half-time changes and one of the replacements made an immediate impact as Hamill crossed for Macken to score five minutes after the restart.

Fellow substitute Iain Hume and Emil Hallfredsson both had chances for the visitors before Morrison headed in Best's cross in the second minute of injury-time to secure the victory for Coventry.

Barnsley manager Mark Robins told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"Had we played in the second half how we did in the first half we would have won the game.

"We were on top for the first 25 minutes but then conceded a poor goal.

"We've thrown a away a big chance for three points but we can't complain too much because we've conceded three poor goals."

Coventry manager Chris Coleman:
"That's probably the worst we have played for six weeks and for the first 15 minutes we were nowhere near the pace.

"We went down the other end and scored two so at half-time we told them that we had to improve even though we were two-up. They scored and that made us nervous.

"Massive credit has to go to everyone who has worked through the night to get the game on - the groundsmen, the stewards - everybody. They have played a big part for us as did our supporters. Three points was their reward."
