Club captain Lee Carsley heads a list of five Coventry City players who have been released by manager Andy Thorn.

The Sky Blues boss is looking to stamp his own mark on the squad and has not offered new deals to the 37-year-old midfielder, Michael McIndoe, Isaac Osbourne, Stephen O’Halloran and rookie goalkeeper Michael Quirke.

Out-of-contract Danny Ireland – this season’s main understudy to Keiren Westwood – has been offered another year, while Roy O’Donovan, who has played just 14 minutes of Championship football since re-signing for the club last summer, has another year left on his contract.

Thorn has paid tribute to Carsley, the man brought to the club and appointed skipper by his predecessor Aidy Boothroyd.

But with Sammy Clingan’s impressive form in the manager’s diamond midfield, it is clear where Thorn’s focus lies next season.

“Lee has been a great pro to have about the place,” he said of the veteran who is understood to have a number of options.

“He’s had his injuries but he has been great around the lads and I am sure he won’t be stuck for a new club.”
